Mr. KIM Samnang obtained his Master of History of Art & Archaeology of Southeast Asian Region from SOAS, University of London in 2016, Master of Southeast Asian Studies from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok in 2010 and Bachelor degree of Business Management from National Institute of Management, Phnom Penh in 2001. In 2006-7, he participated a special training on Archaeological Site Management of World Heritage Site of Nikko at Tochigi Archeological Research Center, Tochigi prefecture, Japan. In 2011, his book, titled “Along the Royal Road: From Kol to Phnom Rung, Ancient Angkorian Settlements Compared” was published by Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University and reprinted in 2015 in Germany by Lambert Academic Publishing.
Mr. KIM Samnang worked as a GIS and Mapping Coordinator for the World Heritage Site of Angkor under supervision by the APSARA National Authority (Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor and Siem Reap Region) for almost two decades. In addition, Mr. Kim Samnang played an important role in revealing some mapping concepts for developing and analyzing archaeological data for various local and international collaboration projects. For example, he participated as a key research member in various archaeological collaboration research projects in Mainland Southeast Asia such as the Living Angkor Road Project (LARP) (a Khmer-Thai Joint Research Project studied the Angkor Royal Road traces), Middle Mekong Archaeological Project (MMAP) (University of Pennsylvania and National Museum of Laos PDR at Luang Prabang), the Excavation of a Brown Glazed Stoneware Kiln Site at Torp Chey, Banteay Chhmar Archaeological Research Project. In recent years, he has been chosen as a member of the nomination preparation team for Banteay Chhmar Archaeological Landscape for World Heritage Center led by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.
From July 2021 to July 2022, Mr. Samnang was appointed as a deputy director of the Department of Land Management, Urbanization, and Community Development for National Authority for Preah Vihear (NAPV) at Koh Ker Archaeological site. Then, since August 2022 onwards, he has been promoted to Director of the Department of Land Management, Urbanization, and Community Development at Koh Ker and Preah Vihear Sites.
